WELCOME to the St. Patrick Parish Webpage:
We are nearing the end of January and so little snow. Sorry for the skiers, but I am happy for the change from last year. In just a few short weeks we will begin the Lenten Season. This is always a time of grace-filled opportunity. In our Belmont/Watertown Collaborative we share a lot of programs to enhance your Lenten experience. Keep visiting our webpage for lots of information.
St. Patrick Parish strives to welcome everyone to the parish and I hope that you will use this Webpage as an introduction to our community and its activities - but more - that you will join us for worship on the weekend. May the Lord bless you and your family.

A Survey for Disconnected Catholics is Here
If you have left the church on a permanent or regular basis, if you are only participating at Mass for baptisms, weddings and funerals or other special family events, the parish community is asking you to consider reconnecting with the faith of your childhood. Statistically, the majority of registered Catholics no longer affiliate with a parish community. In all honesty, we miss you. I would like to know how our parish might encourage your returning. What can the parish do to re-energize your faith life?
We believe that having a spiritual connection with God (especially Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit) is an integral part of our humanity. We need God – and – we need a community to support us in that relationship. Your parish – St. Patrick Parish – wants to be your community of faith. It desires to help you to know God better and find peace in your life. The past several years have been traumatic for the Catholic Church. I am very sorry for the terrible abuse inflicted on innocent people. The Church in Boston has made an enormous effort to address this issue and prevent future pain. In many ways, the new policies, outreach and support go far beyond other organizations and government agencies. There is no excuse; there is only our asking for forgiveness. But the crimes of a few do not negate the reality of Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior, who lived, died and rose for the salvation of every man and woman.
What can the parish do for you? On the bottom of this letter is a survey consisting of three questions I would ask of every person who has lost his/her connection with the Church. I ask you to share WHY you left the church, WHAT the parish can do to encourage your return, and WHAT ELSE you can share to help us build a community of faith. Please fill out the form at the link at the bottom of this letter. Please help us to welcome you back to your community, prayer, support and a renewed relationship to Christ and His Love.
Thank you for responding. Peace to you and your family,

Rev. Robert L. Connors,
Pastor

Neighbor Visits Neighbor
Starting in the Spring, we are beginning a new ministry in the parish that will serve those who are elderly and home bound. The purpose of this ministry is to organize a "social visit" to people who don't get out much. Do you know someone who would like a social visit? Would they like a new friend to visit them? Would you like a new friend to visit you?
ALSO, we would like to gather volunteers to offer their time to visit. If you are interested in joining this new ministry, we would appreciate your help.
To be visited OR to be a volunteer, please call Nancy @ 781-642-0534 or the Parish Office @ 617-926-9680.
Liturgical Language Changes Now in Effect
The new liturgical language changes began the First Sunday of Advent (November 27th). Cards with the changes that affect your responses and prayer are now in the pews. We encourage you to read through the card in order to become familiar with the changes. We will need to be patient with everyone – priests and laity - as we begin this new venture (or ad-venture!). May it help us as a prayer community to feel closer to the Lord whom we worship and adore.
Family Mass Schedule
This year we are encouraging families to attend the 10am Liturgy, after religious education, before coffee and donuts. By its very nature and design our Catholic liturgy brings us together as the People of God, and can bring us closer to God through the various elements of our worship. While every Mass reaches out to all of us, certain parts of the Mass can be planned to connect more directly with different age groups at Mass.
We want our 10:00 Family Mass to reach all ages in our parish family, so we have planned a rotating schedule with a Children's Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) and a Class Mass each month. Other 10am Liturgies will include homilies geared specifically for adults or homilies where the children are called up to the sanctuary area.
Upcoming special liturgies are
- January 22 -- CLOW
- February 5 -- Grade 4 Class Mass
CLOW: After the opening prayer and before the first reading, the children will be dismissed from the main liturgy and process downstairs for their own liturgy of the word (readings, homily, creed and petitions). They will rejoin the main congregation at the offertory.
Class Masses: At each Class Mass, the students will fulfill all of the ministries which are open to them replacing some of the adult ministers for that Mass. The students will be greeters, lectors, gift bearers, money collectors, etc.
